Students, faculty, administrators and members of the community gathered in the WVC Theater on Wednesday 23 October to screen Harvest of Empire: The Untold Story of Latinos in America, a feature-length documentary based on the ground-breaking book by Juan González. This award-winning documentary, co-produced by Wendy Thompson-Marquez and Eduardo López who is also co-director, traces the series of interventions made by the United States which then led directly to massive migration movements. As Juan González says at the beginning of the film “They never teach us in school that the huge Latino presence here [in the United States] is a direct result of our own government’s actions in Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America over many decades — actions that forced millions from that region to leave their homeland and journey north.” After the screening, the audience talked with Eduardo López.

A detailed announcement can be found in the WVMCC District website.
