Today was graduation at West Valley College and seven graduates were conferred with a Global Citizenship stole to celebrate their successful completion of the Global Studies Emphasis and sustained commitment to global citizenship.
Faculty member of the Department of English, Advisor to the Global Student Club, and member of the WVC Global Citizenship Committee, Vicky Kalivitis, opened the conferring ceremony by thanking students for their steadfast involvement in the college’s multiple global citizenship initiatives–sustainability, culture, travel, civic–and reminded everyone that the Global Citizenship stole symbolizes their success and commitment, and that it is also a charge, a charge to continue to actively engage with the world, and to help make it more just and sustainable. That stole, she said, is a reminder to work relentlessly toward making our world a better place. After, WVC President, Bradley Davis, congratulated students and took several pictures with everyone.
The graduating class consisted of 800 students, ranging in age from 18 to 73; more than 60 percent of the class received a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
Faculty in the WVC Global Citizenship Committee are extremely proud of the students who graduated today!
