On 24 May 2018 West Valley College held its 53rd Commencement and Transfer Ceremony at the City National Civic Theater in San José. Among the graduates are two students who earned degrees with an area of emphasis in Cultural and Global Studies: Susana Aguiar and Mikela Lazari.
Earning a degree with an area of emphasis indicates that the student has completed the required number of credits (usually 18) in the specific area, and that the student has achieved expertise in that area.
Having completed all of the requirements for the area of emphasis in Cultural and Global Studies, both Susana and Mikela were awarded the Global Citizenship stole for them to wear during the graduation/transfer ceremony.
